Garganey (Anas guerguedula) also called Blue-Winged Teal is a common winter visitor in India. These birds are found in the wetlands.

Identification: The male can easily be identified by its prominent sweeping white eye stripe.  Size: 40 cm

Local names: Chaita, Khira   Food: mainly vegetable matter, seeds, shoots, grasses, wild rice also worms molluscs and insects
