The distribution of Indian birds can be grouped into 13 bio-geographical regions of India and the surrounding countries. These are the Trans Himalayan, Western Himalayas, Eastern Himalayas, Desert, Semi-arid, Gangetic plain, Central India, Deccan Plateau, Western Ghats, Eastern Ghats, North East, Coasts and the Andaman Nicobar Islands. Within these regions there are smaller more specialized habitats like the Sunderbans delta (Gangetic plain), Rann of Kutch (Desert & semi-arid) and cold desert of Ladakh, Lahaul Spiti (Trans Himalayan). |
