Yellow Wagtail (Motacilla flava) is a local resident (western Himalayas) and widespread winter visitor in India. Size: 18 cm

Identification: Slender bill, yellow underparts and olive back. Dark wings with some white edges. White supercilium and gray head. Black tail with white outer tail feathers. Dark legs. Sexes similar. Juveniles have duller plumage, paler underparts and dark malar streaks connecting across the upper breast.

Similar species: Gray Wagtail has yellow rump and white wing stripe.
